19-Year-Old Louisiana Founder Launches USNX News, Continuing a Journalism Journey That Began at Age 9
Nearly a decade after launching EVEN News as a nine-year-old in Acadiana, Even St. Julien is beginning a new chapter with USNX News — a Louisiana-first news organization built with national ambitions.
ACADIANA, La. — For Even St. Julien, launching a news organization at 19 years old is not the beginning of an interest in journalism. It is the continuation of one that began a decade ago.
St. Julien was nine years old in 2016 when he founded EVEN News, an independent digital news outlet born from a childhood fascination with journalism, broadcasting and breaking news.
What began as a young boy reporting stories online grew into a recognizable local media project across Acadiana. Over the years, St. Julien became known locally for his work in news, with EVEN News and its young founder receiving attention from Acadiana television outlets including KLFY, KATC and News15. His reporting continued through major events affecting Louisiana, including Hurricane Ida, as the outlet developed beyond the childhood project it began as.
Now, 10 years after that first launch, St. Julien is introducing USNX News.
USNX stands for United States Network Exchange, but the name represents something broader than a traditional news network. USNX is envisioned as an exchange of different media networks under one organization. USNX News is the first division, with the larger brand eventually capable of housing other concepts spanning community, entertainment, food and cooking, digital programming and other areas of media.
For now, the focus is news.
USNX News will launch with a deliberate Louisiana-first approach, placing significant emphasis on Acadiana and communities throughout the state while developing a national news operation covering major stories across the United States.
At the center of the newsroom is a simple philosophy:
“American News. Not a Narrative.”
USNX News intends to draw a firm distinction between reporting and commentary. Its goal is to tell audiences what happened, provide the context necessary to understand it and allow viewers and readers to form their own conclusions.
That philosophy will also influence what USNX chooses not to include.
The newsroom does not intend to routinely insert unrelated controversies, inflammatory labels, slurs, personal characteristics or background information into stories simply because those facts may generate attention. Information will be included when it is genuinely relevant to understanding the story.
For example, if a government official signs an executive order, USNX intends to report the order, what it does, who it affects and the relevant context surrounding it. A separate past controversy or criminal case involving that official would not automatically be inserted into the story unless it materially relates to the action being reported.
The goal is not to conceal relevant facts. It is to prevent unrelated facts from being used to frame a reader’s perception before the actual news has even been delivered.
Louisiana will serve as the starting point for that approach.
USNX plans to cover local government, communities, culture, business, faith, major events and the people shaping Louisiana, while simultaneously developing its national reporting operation.
The network is also being built for an increasingly digital audience. USNX News programming and live coverage are planned for USNXNews.com, Facebook and YouTube, allowing viewers to access real-time streaming wherever they are — bringing live news directly to the devices already in their hands.
That digital strategy will eventually include original programming.
The network’s planned flagship broadcast, “USNX Evening News with Even St. Julien,” is currently targeted to begin in mid-2027. The program is envisioned as a daily-style national news broadcast combining the most important stories from Louisiana with major developments from across the country.
The website launching with USNX News will serve as the foundation for that expansion, eventually supporting written journalism, breaking-news coverage, live streams, original video reporting and network programming.
For St. Julien, USNX represents both something entirely new and something remarkably familiar.
